LIGHT AND AIRY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
Bend, oregon / nashville, tn WEDDING AND ELOPEMENT PHOTOGRAPHER
While my Instagram feed might not portray me as a light and airy wedding photographer, or a natural light wedding photographer, much of what we photograph falls into those categories. While I’m drawn to darker images and tend to create a few during a wedding, or for personal projects, the majority of the images we create are light, bright and happy. Be it a mid-day first look, sunset portrait session, and everything in between, there’s a joyful image to be made in any light.
Elizabeth, Canyon City, Oregon.
Elizabeth and Jayson held an intimate Oregon wedding in the small town of Canyon City where Elizabeth’s parents reclaimed an early 1900’s schoolhouse. I’ve traveled the world with Elizabeth as we documented stories from various NGO’s. It was such an honor to tell her story and to watch the Spring light fall on her wedding dress.
Kim, Joseph, Oregon.
Studio photographers spend large amounts of money on gear that can replicate what a giant window can. While I believe that a professional photographer should have the skills to create light when necessary, there’s nothing wrong with placing a beautiful bride in window light. I loved the wallpaper behind the bed too.
Sayulita, Mexico Waves.
I love the moments in between-the details of a large moment unfolding. A carefree bride and groom, running through waves in Mexico during their “day after” session. A little bit like life… The waves will come-just hold on to each other.
The Professional Wedding Party.
Next time I ask the wedding party to throw their bouquets at me for a fun photo, I’ll ask if any of them are professional softball pitchers. Ask me how I learned that-roughly a second after I took this photo.
Liliana and Jacob, Black Butte Ranch.
Nothing can replicate a central Oregon sunset in the Summertime. From time to time, I’ll have a bride jump in the arms of the groom to see what happens. Jacob had little trouble holding on to his brand new wife for a sweet Summer embrace. It’s the little suggestions that can create the most beautiful candid images.
Details.
For those who’ve planned their weddings for years and the vendors who bring the day to life-the details matter. In what was one of my favorite weddings to date, Summer Robbins created floral beauty on a scale I haven’t seen since. While grandiose is often preferred in still images, I loved this tiny moment of simplicity. A prism was used to remove distracting elements in real time and to create an etherial mood.
Juniper Preserve Wedding
Juniper Preserve, located near Bend, Oregon, is a stunning backdrop for a wedding any time of the year. One of my favorite local venues to make pictures at, JP is full of little areas full of warmth and texture, offering a respite from the Summer heat, or a chance to warm yourself in the Winter sun. Here, a stunning bride basks in the natural light.
Sunsets in Sayulita.
A day after session is a fantastic way to get more laid back images of a couple. The stress of the wedding day is over, no one feels pulled to be in three different places conversing with family and it’s just the couple and the storytellers.
